THEN and NOW
When the local Art show in 1998 was such a success, Sue Ford and Gabrielle Maloney worked with the the local Rotarians to establish a group to promote and encourage the development of art and craft among local practitioners in the Samford community. They set up and staffed display space in an empty shop in the village. From 1998 - 2000 the group of about fifty people displayed their work in a succession of empty shop spaces.
Covid19 may have stopped many of us, but the Samford Art and Craft Association used the closure of our premises to work with retail business interior designers "Retailers Choice" to undertake a total revamp of the interior of The Slab Hut. The old peg board had been with us for too long and our display boards looked very tired. Out with the old and in with the new.
From very humble beginnings, the Samford Art and Craft Association has proven to be an enduring social and cultural centre for local artisans - a true resource for the Samford Valley and its surrounds - as well as providing valuable community service.
